Sugar in follow-on milk?

We are often asked about sugars in follow-on milk. We are happy to explain!
Lactose is milk sugar. Lactose can be found in almost all milk of mammals; including breast milk. So goat milk also naturally contains lactose.

To make sure babies and toddlers get enough carbohydrates, the minimum amount of lactose that follow-on milk must contain is laid down in European legislation. That is why extra carbohydrates are added to the follow-on formula. We only use lactose for this purpose. We do not add maltodextrin or other sugars to the follow-on milk to meet this amount of carbohydrates.
